A
process or system that helps companies increase competitiveness,
profitability and customer satisfaction by improving business processes,
systems and IT. Development usually includes business management
software. The proper BMP, when professionally implemented, maximizes insight
and control over an entire enterprise.
“Business management platform” is
interchangeable with “business management solution.”

Cloud computing is a style
of information technology in which dynamically scalable and often
virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Cloud
computing services often provide common business applications online that
are accessed from a web browser, while the software and data are stored on
the servers. The term cloud is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on
how the Internet is depicted in computer network diagrams and is an
abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals.
The concept generally
incorporates combinations of the following:
Software
as a service (SaaS)
Infrastructure as
a service (IaaS)
Platform
as a service (PaaS)
Customer relationship
management (CRM) software is a type of program that automates business tasks
such as tracking of customer interactions, sales processing, and inventory
control, as well as analyzing sales forecasts and performance. Businesses
may have a custom version developed specifically for their needs or choose
from among a number of customer relationship management software products.
Customer relationship management is sometimes referred to as sales force
automation (SFA) or sales automation software.
ERP is an industry acronym
for the broad set of activities that enables a company to manage the
important aspects of its business. ERP is a way to integrate the data and
processes of an organization into one single system. The information made
available through an ERP (enterprise resource planning) system provides
visibility for key performance indicators (KPIs) required for meeting
company objectives. ERP can also include application modules for the finance
and human resources aspects of a business. Additionally, ERP software
applications can be used to manage product planning and parts purchasing.
ERP facilitates inventory control, supplier interaction, customer service,
and order tracking. Typically, an ERP system uses or is integrated with a
relational database system.
Infrastructure as a
Service is a provision model in which an organization out-sources the
equipment used to support operations, including storage, hardware, servers
and networking components. The service provider owns the equipment and is
responsible for housing, running and maintaining it. The client typically
pays on a subscription or a per-use basis.
A key performance
indicator (KPI) is a methodology used to evaluate factors that are vital to
the success of a company or organization. Key performance indicators,
above all else, are a set of indicators to measure data against an
enterprise standard gauge. Key performance indicators enable a company or
organization to measure and assess progress toward set goals.
On demand refers to the
instantaneous provision of services and the utility computing infrastructure
that underpins it, using emerging technologies such as server
virtualization, autonomic systems, and adaptive provisioning.
Platform as a service (PaaS)
is a paradigm for delivering operating systems and associated services over
the Internet without downloads or installation. PaaS is sometimes called "cloudware"
because it moves resources from privately owned computers into the Internet
"cloud." Platform as a service (PaaS) is an outgrowth of software as a
service (SaaS).
Invented by E. F. Codd at
IBM in 1970, a relational database organizes sets of defined tables of
information from which data can be accessed or assembled in different ways
while not having to reorganize the database tables, per se. The most common
application interface to a relational database is the structured query
language (SQL).
Sales force automation
(SFA) software is a type of program that automates business tasks such as
tracking of customer interactions, sales processing, and inventory control,
as well as analyzing sales forecasts and performance. Businesses may have a
custom version developed specifically for their needs or choose from among a
number of sales force automation software products. Sales force automation
is sometimes referred to as customer relations management (CRM) or sales
automation software.
Software as a service (SaaS) is software that is deployed over the internet
without needing to be installed on each computer on which it is used,
where applications are hosted by a vendor or service provider and made
available to customers over the Internet.
SQL is a standard language
for accessing and manipulating databases. Although SQL is an ANSI (*American
National Standards Institute) standard, there are many different versions of
the SQL language. To be compliant with the ANSI standard, all versions
support at least the major commands (such as “update,” “select,” “insert,”
“where,” “delete,”) in some manner.
Most
all SQL database programs also have their
own proprietary extensions in addition to the SQL standard!
The American
National Standards Institute or
ANSI
private non-profit organization that oversees the development of voluntary
consensus standards for products, processes, services systems, and personnel
in the United States.
